ORANJESTAD - Xander Bogaerts added another major milestone to an already remarkable Major League Baseball career on Saturday, recording his 400th career double during a big performance for the San Diego Padres against the San Francisco Giants.
Bogaerts entered the game sitting on 399 career doubles and reached the 400 mark as part of an outstanding 4-for-5 day at the plate, helping San Diego come away with a 7-6 victory over the Giants.
The milestone double came in unusual fashion. Bogaerts appeared to check his swing, but still managed to make enough contact to send the baseball into play and turn it into a double. What looked at first like an attempt to hold up his swing instead became career double No. 400.
For the 33-year-old from Aruba, reaching 400 doubles represents another impressive achievement in a Major League career that began with the Boston Red Sox in 2013.
Bogaerts developed into one of the premier shortstops in baseball during his years in Boston, winning two World Series championships, multiple Silver Slugger Awards and earning several All-Star selections before joining the Padres ahead of the 2023 season.
The numbers accumulated along the way have placed Bogaerts in distinguished company. In addition to reaching 400 doubles, he is closing in on another enormous career milestone: 2,000 Major League hits.
Saturday's four-hit performance moved him another step closer to that mark and provided an important offensive contribution for a Padres team fighting for postseason position late in the 2026 season.
For Aruba, however, the significance goes beyond the numbers.
From San Nicolas to becoming a World Series champion and one of the most accomplished players the island has ever produced, Bogaerts continues to add new chapters to Aruba's baseball history.
