ORANJESTAD — Chadwick Tromp will have an opportunity to play for a championship as the Oklahoma City Comets have officially punched their ticket to the 2026 Pacific Coast League Championship Series.

The Comets clinched the PCL second-half title Wednesday with a dominant 12-0 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas, securing a matchup against the first-half champion Las Vegas Aviators. Oklahoma City improved to 45-26 in the second half and 86-59 overall with the victory.

Tromp played a part in the championship-clinching win. With the game still scoreless in the fifth inning, the Aruban catcher delivered a sacrifice fly that brought home the first run of the afternoon and gave Oklahoma City a 1-0 advantage. The Comets later broke the game open with six runs in the seventh and another five in the eighth.

It continues a strong stretch for Tromp since joining the Comets in August. On September 10, he provided one of his biggest offensive moments with Oklahoma City, launching a three-run home run in an 8-0 victory over Sugar Land during the Comets' franchise-record-setting late-season winning streak.

Next Stop: Las Vegas

The championship series will take Tromp and the Comets to Las Vegas Ballpark, where they will face the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Athletics.

The best-of-three PCL Championship Series begins Tuesday, September 22, with Game 2 scheduled for Wednesday, September 23 and, if necessary, a deciding Game 3 on Thursday, September 24.

There is even more at stake than the PCL trophy.

The winner of the series will advance to the Triple-A National Championship Game on Saturday, September 26, also at Las Vegas Ballpark, where the PCL champion will meet the International League champion.

For Oklahoma City, it is an opportunity to capture its second PCL championship in four years.

For Baseball Aruba fans, however, there will be another reason to follow the series closely.

Chadwick Tromp is playing for a championship.

After joining Oklahoma City late in the season, Tromp has found himself right in the middle of a postseason push. Now the Aruban catcher and the Comets are heading to Las Vegas with three victories separating them from a PCL title — and potentially one more game after that for the Triple-A National Championship.
